Celebrating strength through portraiture

Figurative paintings of the Renaissance period were reserved for the rich and powerful, with carefully selected attire to highlight their prominent placement in society. Danielle Festa is highlighting a different type of power, that which lies in individuals who have overcome challenges, painted in outfits that showcase their strength.

A personal approach to painting

Each tribute painting is a collaboration between artist Danielle Festa and the subject. Meeting up in-person or via Zoom with one-on-one session(s) to get to know her subject is an integral part of the process and allows for an emotional and personal connection to the painting. The subject will be shown various Renaissance portraits to decide on as a point of inspiration. Attire is also an important part of Festa's paintings so textiles and fibers may be incorporated. A modelling session will be planned including a photography shoot to capture references. When the painting is complete, it will be part of an exhibition at Aplomb gallery from June-August. Paintings and stories may be included in a book that will be given to each subject as well.
